One of the MOST important things to do for your dog

A Well Balanced Dog Needs Teeth Brushing

Dog's do not develop cavities like we do. Tartar builds up on the teeth causing infection and bacteria to live inside our dog's mouths. As that infection sits in the mouth it affects and can cause harm to not only the teeth and gums but to their internal organs. Dental cleanings performed at the veterinarian's office are expensive and our dogs have to be sedated to be performed. Non anesthetic cleanings only clean the surface and are not able to take x-rays and perform extractions which can cause more harm than good. Because of this it's best to practice daily brushing to prevent problems from occurring.

2. Positive reinforcement training is key! How do you think they train whales? Not by beating them! If you intimidate a bear or a whale they're going to kill you! Zoo trainers use positive reinforcement and it's a lot easier to train this way.

How To Stop Your Dog From Barking

My dog Bueller staying calm while our door was being painted by our landlord
Your dog naturally is going to bark to alarm you of possible stranger danger...
So be thankful for that.

Your dog is a dog, and it's barks. You knew dogs barked before getting a dog...or at least I hope you knew. :)

Some breeds are more prone to barking, especially small breeds!

Bueller's breed, The Papillon, is known for being a barker! He's definitely not always quiet so trust me when I say no dog is perfect.

We as pet parents just have to stay patient and take time to understand them!

    Fleas

    Signs your pet has fleas:
Itching a lot or a little!
    Stopping from playing to itch
Red bumps on belly/stomach (Allergic reaction to flea bites)
    Whining while itching
Dirt like dander (Put on wet paper towel and if it turns red that is the flea's poop!)

You do NOT want your pet to get fleas! It will infest your pet and your home! Prevention is key.

Fleas are serious business! Fleas are blood sucking poop creating grossly multiplying creatures who not only infest your pet but infest your home! Some fleas carry tapeworm and when your pet eats a flea while trying to relieve themselves from itching it will infest your pet!

When Not To Vaccinate Your Pet

Everyone always mentions the importance of vaccinating but when shouldn't your veterinarian vaccinate.

    When Your Pet Is Sick
A vaccination to administered to help your pet create antibodies to the real disease so when your pet is introduced to it in it's environment they can easily fight it off before any sign of illness occurs. The body will know how to fight off the disease because of it learned how to fight of the weakened copy/similar replica of it that was administered with the vaccination. If your pet's immune system is lowered at the time of administration of a vaccination they will not be able to properly fight off the weakened virus.

How To Trim A Dogs Nails

Trimming your pets nails can be really scary! Not only that if you have your veterinary office do it every 3-4 weeks that can really start to get pricey! Today I’m going to show you how to trim your dogs nails and even show you how I do it by myself.

Since Pharaoh/Bueller was a kitten/puppy I’ve done my best to handle their paws and nails. Sometimes I would pick at Bueller’s nails to get him ready for me to trim them and get use to having pressure on his nails.

Trimming every 3-4 weeks is ideal for pets. Try to be conscious of the length of your pet’s nails. We don’t want their nails getting too long. Nails that are too long can sometimes twist their toes into uncomfortable positions, making walking uncomfortable, or with cats their claws can grow all the way around and pierce their pads.

You want to avoid hitting the quick. The quick is the small blood vessel that supplies the nail nutrients. If hit bleeding can be hard to stop in some situations.

How I trim my dog's nails.
