DIY Giving your dog a bath

Dogs and cats naturally bathe themselves. Only bathe your cat or dog when absolutely necessary so you do not dry out their skin.

Here's a clip of me washing Tim Deegan's dog when I was at ApprenticeEh!

In this post I explain the easy how to's that you may not know when bathing your pet!

How To: Quick Pet Stain Cleaner

The other day my puppy had an accident  on the couch and managed to get some urine on my mother's lap top stand however we didn't find out until a couple days later.....

Kind of gross but today I'm going to teach you how to get rid of that urine stain for good!

First I'm sure you all have a pet stain cleaner, which is good, but I want to make sure this smell is gone for good since it lingered for a couple days

What To Expect: Spaying & Neutering

The Process Of Spaying and Neutering
(For Cats & Dogs)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Dogs and cats are fixed between 5-6 months. 6 months is the time at which both cats and dogs hit puberty. The goal is that we want to spay/neuter the dog before it hits puberty. Spaying/Neuter is best done earlier than later, the longer you wait the more problems you may run into.

A non spayed female WILL have a monthly menstration for the rest of their life. Meaning she will bleed once a month. Some families have not noticed this occurring with their intact females because they are so good at cleaning themselves. The more monthly cycles they have the more it puts them at risk for a pyometra and mammory cancer.

That being said, not getting your dog spayed or neuter can cause cancers, unwanted pregnancies, and behavior problems!

My Cat Has Feline Acne!

Does your cat have small black bumps underneath it's chin? Sounds like a case of Feline Acne!

Yes, cats can suffer from acne just like humans! Mostly effecting underneath the chin, the causes range from poor grooming, environment, age, stress, and suppressed immune system.

Suppressed Immune System means there is another underlying issue with kitty causing the acne which could range from anything and everything. Assess your cat's life to know if it may be very serious.

Some of the times Feline Acne is caused by poor environment when feeding/drinking. Make sure your food/water bowls are always clean.

Older cats and younger cats often suffer mild feline acne at some time in their life.

Dogs Years versus People Years

People sometimes speak to me in Dog Years like it's some kind of extremely important code and adding seven years is going to give me more insight to what the dog's age is really like.

In the Veterinary world we do not use dog years, we just use the age of the pet.

Dogs have a much higher metabolism than people. They breathe faster, their heart beats faster, and their body temperature is higher.
All of this is because your dog's life span is shorter than a human's life span.

Most people use +7 years to generate a Dog Years equation which isn't really accurate.

What is Normal For Pets

It's important for any pet owner to know what is normal of their pet's health.

Even the simplest symptoms such as lack of energy, cough, hair loss, lack of appetite and others could mean your pet is gravely ill and needs to see a veterinarian immediately!

Animals instinctively hide illness. Especially birds and rabbits.

Feeding Dogs Table Scraps & People Food

Does your dog lack some table manners?

Chances are if you're feeding table scraps to your dog it will lead to your dog feel more dominant!
Which can cause behavior problems because your dog feels more like the pack leader!

Dogs should be fed after your family's meal in their own bowl with their own food away from the table.

Introduction To Horse Behavior

Horses can be such a joy to own! I have amazing memories of riding my horses and having so much fun! However they can be very dangerous and I've had many people tell me they are deathly afraid of them! Rightfully so! A person can get very hurt or even killed by riding horses.

Understanding how to act around them can save your life and make you have a better time with them.

Horses are animals of prey meaning they instinctively expect a giant monster to jump out of the bushes and eat them at every minute of every day of their entire existence.

I think my dog can't breathe and is making a scary noise!

Is your dog choking? Or is your dog suffering from a reverse sneeze.

A reverse sneeze is caused by irritation in the throat from inflammation. Your dog will then create this 'honking' noise.

(Check the videos at the end of this post for examples of this sound)

Perfect Cat Christmas Presents

Last year I surprised my cousin Jennifer by purchasing her new kitten a present for my cousin's christmas gift. It actually turned out amazingly and her kitten played with those Hartz Mousy toys for a long long time. It brought my cousin joy that her kitten had a new toy that she said it was the perfect gift for her even if it was for her cat!

Should cats drink cows milk?

The short answer is no. It's a common misconception that cats love dairy milk and it's healthy for them but it is not. Dairy milk can cause stomach upset and diarrhea in your feline friends.

Easy Clicker Training Guide

In this weekly video episode we are going to begin clicker training. Messages between human and dog aren’t always easily communicated to each other. The tone of your voice changes depending what mood you’re in and the consistency of your praise to your dog isn’t always the same. Meaning in training when you are trying to praise the dog for doing a certain trick it may not be easy for the dog to know exactly what it did correctly.
That is where the clicker can come into play.
