How To Ride A Horse

In this video tutorial we will be going over the very easy basics of how to horseback ride!

BASICS:
To walk forward: Squeeze with your thighs(legs).
To stop moving: Pull back with the reins.
To go backwards: At a standstill pull back with the reins.

ENGLISH:
To move to the right: Pull your right rein back and squeeze(put pressure) with your left thigh).
To move to the left: Pull your left rein back and squeeze(put pressure) with your right thigh).

WESTERN: (Neck reining)
To move to the right: Put your reins on the right side of the horse's neck and squeeze (put pressure) with your right thigh).
To move to the left: Put your reins on the left side of the horse's neck and squeeze(put pressure) with your left thigh).

Since you may be a new rider it's extremely important to know what to do in case of an emergency! Your horse may figure out that you're a beginner and try to take control of the situation, however stay strong and confident!!!

If for some reason your horse does take off running with you on top pull back on the reins and avoid squeezing your legs (You may have to just to stay on but if you can let some of the pressure go). Another very easy trick to get your horse to stop running or being bad is to make your horse turn! Turning your horse distracts them from doing what they were before and to focus on what way you want to turn.

Just like with dogs, distractions help! If your dog is chewing on something he isn't supposed to, replace the item.
If your horse is going to fast or not listening, do circles!

If you would like to learn more check out my blog from yesterday on the introduction to horse behavior. Reading it could save your life!

I will see you guys with another new post tomorrow and a new video next Wednesday on my Youtube!
